![]() ![]() And if that’s what Robin & Batman is headed for, that’s a hell of a story. Finally, the one who needs love may well be the man in the darkness. Maybe he’s the one who has to fall for Robin to pick him up and open up new opportunities for him. It’s not far, it’s just waiting to open up and swallow it up. A man who knows only one model of functioning, and who does not know how to do otherwise. Batman appears hard and devoid of empathy. It is the only truth and everything must be sacrificed, even childhood. For him, any territory is potentially an enemy territory, any ally potentially a traitor, any fragility must be able to be exploited. He learns the art of war, the art of stealth, espionage, manipulation. Dick Grayson is a child who can’t and will never be like the others. Good of very good comics, high flying! By far, one of the best comics I’ve had in a long time. ![]() neat writing, wonderful drawings, successful plot. ![]() ![]() It was fun to get Ronin's story too after having seen him in the background of his brother's story. ![]() I just finished reading Ronin's brother Raden's story, "Mated", in the anthology Haunted by Your Touch - "Fated" actually comes first. And even though Ronin is now sure that just any woman will no longer 'do' and that he only wants Kari, Kari is not willing to be just another notch in Ronin's bedpost and rebuff's his advances. ![]() But Ronin has fixated on one woman, Kari, a woman who has watched Ronin and his twin pickup scores of women - and with each conquest her heart breaks just a little more. Ronin's family has been cursed, and since they no longer recognized their mates they no longer issue 'the Call' and instead bed enumerable 'faceless' women to keep their magical powers charged. ![]() ![]() ![]() The problem with endless revisions and perfectionist approaches to sentence and scene crafting is that it results in ever-delayed books as the author is never satisfied with a work being good enough. It's something I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised by in another 20 or 30 years if it happens. A fourth book is not something I'm willing to 'wait' for. Creativity isn't on a timeline.īut there are problems with the revision upon revision perfectionist approach to writing that mean if Rothfuss doesn't tie up the story with book 3, I'm probably done waiting on him. I'm not up on his personal life-but 6 years is. ![]() Produces: Brandon is a robot! To make a long story short, in Empire, Scalzi introduced us to the Interdependency, a series of human colonies and inhabited planets scattered throughout space, held together by a sort of space-time river called the Flow, which allowed humanity to travel among these scattered worlds. In its broadest terms, the Interdependency is about the collapse of a massive space empire, not through politics or through evolution, but through uncontrollable disaster. Now, though, I’ve read the other two volumes in the series – The Consuming Fire and The Last Emperox – and what I’ll say is that they help me see how The Collapsing Empire wasn’t really a prologue at all – it’s just that the Interdependency series wasn’t really what I thought it was…and ultimately, what it is isn’t as interesting as what I wish it was, as unfair as that is to the series. ![]() It was a fun and engaging read, most definitely, but one that ended leaving me feeling like the whole book was a prologue to the story Scalzi really wanted to tell – and to spend a third of a series on lead-up felt like a bad choice. About a month back, I read The Collapsing Empire, the first book in John Scalzi’s Interdependency series. ![]() ![]() ![]() My thoughts already muddled, I stand, waiting with the rope around my neck. A door slams in the hallway, almost causing me to lose my balance. ![]() He’d be heartbroken if he could see me now. ![]() Picturing his face forces me to reconsider my choice. I twist it around to read the inscription. It’s my ring, the last precious gift my father gave me. Dropping my hands, a glimmer catches my eye. I inhale, preparing myself for the finality of it all. I take one last look at the crystal chandelier, the foyer outlined with mirrors, and the flawless decorations. Death and I glare at each other through my tears. I pull down on it, making sure the knot is secure. The rope chafes as I loop it around my neck. Excerpt I’m buried six feet under, and no one hears my screams. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line. Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. To punish the guilty, he created the Hole, a place where sinners are branded according to their sins. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My copy of The Ghost Hunters by Neil Spring ![]() Twitter Updates Tweets by Darrengreenidge Absolute Radio Accommodation Reviews Anger & Sadness Poetry Arthurian Autobiography Betrayal & Revenge Stories Biography Book Reviews Celebration Poetry Childhood Poetry Christmas & New Year Poetry Cork Crime and Punishment Stories Crime Fiction Doctor Who Edinburgh England Faith/Hope & Belief Poetry Fantasy Fantasy & Supernatural Poetry Fantasy Fiction Food & Drink Poetry Friendship & Family Poetry Fun Poetry Gig Reviews Gothic Poetry Graham Masterton Grumbles and Life Historical Historical Fiction Historical Poetry History/Mythology & Legend History/Mythology and Legend Ireland Ireland Stories & Poetry James Herbert James Oswald JRR Tolkien Kinsale Stories and Poetry Limelight Poetry Lindsey Davis Madness Poetry Memories Poetry News Reviews Obituries/In Memorium Oscar De Muriel Oxford stories and poetry Philosophical Poetry Places Poetry Politics and Religion Poetry Pubs/Bars and Eateries Random Rants/Grumbles & Life Romantic Poetry Sadness Poetry Science Fiction Scotland Scotland Stories and Poetry Seasons Poetry Short Stories Simon Kernick Song Lyrics Sport Supernatural & Sci-Fi stories Supernatural Fiction Sweden Television/Film & Radio Reviews The Arts Tourist Trip Reviews Vampyre Poetry & Stories War Poetry Wildlife & Nature Wildlife & Nature Poetry Wolf Conservation Wolf Poetry/Stories Year Review of Caliburnus Rises This work by Darren Greenidge is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License. ![]() ![]() ![]() In this unique book, readers get to see how Duncan, the crayons, and their families celebrate the holidays.
